Greicy Michelle Marafiga Conterato
Professor Conterato holds an undergraduate degree in Pharmacy and Biochemistry with a specialization in Food Technology (2005) and an undergraduate degree in Pharmacy with a generalist focus (2010) from the Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (UFSM). She furthered her academic pursuits by obtaining a master’s degree (2007) and a doctoral degree (2011) in Toxicological Biochemistry, both from UFSM. During her doctoral studies, she embarked on a ten-month sandwich doctoral internship in the Department of Biochemistry and Medical Biophysics at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden, where she dedicated her research to studying the effects of lead and cadmium on the thioredoxin and glutathione systems in vitro. Currently, she is a professor at the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina. Her teaching expertise spans the fields of Biochemistry, Toxicology, and Instrumental Analysis. In her research endeavors, she focuses on various themes including metal toxicity, antioxidant enzymes, the thioredoxin system, the role of oxidative stress in pathologies, and the in vitro and in vivo evaluation of antioxidant properties in natural compounds.
