Professor Welter holds an undergraduate degree in Agriculture from the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, which he completed in 2000. He continued his academic journey by achieving a master’s degree in Plant Genetic Resources from the same university in 2003. Further advancing his academic pursuits, he earned a doctoral degree in Natural Sciences (Dr. rer. nat.) from the University of Karlsruhe in Germany in 2008. Currently, he serves as a professor specializing in Genetics and Plant Biotechnology at the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina – Curitibanos Campus. In addition, he holds the position of a permanent professor in the Graduate Program in Agricultural and Natural Ecosystems – actively contributing to the Integrated Management of Agricultural and Forestry Systems line of research – and in the Graduate Program in Plant Genetic Resources – developing studies in the Genetics and Plant Breeding line of research. His expertise lies in the field of Agriculture, with a strong emphasis on Plant Genetic Improvement. His research endeavors primarily encompass classical breeding, molecular biology, genetic mapping, QTL analysis, molecular marker-assisted selection, and genetic diversity analysis. Professor Welter is an active participant and one of the leaders of the Grape and Wine Studies Center (NEUVIN).
