Syllabus: Analysis of the soil-plant-atmosphere system. Soil physics/Optimum water range. Dynamics of water in the soil (infiltration, storage, and retention). Plant root system distribution and Soil-root interface. Plant responses to light, temperature, water status, and CO2 concentration. Parameters of water in the atmosphere, evaporative demand, and vapor fluxes in the air. Dynamic concept of water availability for plants. Water and thermal stresses. Water balance of agroecosystems. Climate change and its effects on natural and agricultural ecosystems.
